EUGENE TIES FOR DIVISION TITLE; SALEM GETS PLAYOFF SPOT AGAINST SPOKANE!
I attended the final game of 2008 last night and saw the Ems strand a lot of runners but pull through 2-1 after giving up a 1-0 lead in the first inning to the first Everett batter who hit a solo shot DEEP!

As the headline says the Ems tied for first with Salem-Keizer with a 40-36 record but Salem wins the tie breaker and thus gets to play for the NWL title against Spokane!

Eugene started the year slowly and was 12-21 at one point but went on to win 17 of 20 games putting them right back into the thick of things.

Emerald Daniel Robertson, of Oregon State fame, won the NWL MVP award, broke the league short season mark for hits with 114, set a franchise record with a .377 batting average. He also led the league in total hits, runs scored and on-base percentage while ranking in the top five for RBIs, stolen bases and doubles.

The team averaged 3,423 fans per game this year which placed them third in the league behind Spokane and Vancouver.

Manager Greg Riddoch hopes to return for the 2009 season which is slated to be the last at Civic Stadium.

EUGENE COMES BACK FOR 4-2 WIN
Last night was a great ball game, the Emeralds defense turned four double plays to keep Vancouver scoreless through five innings.

Eugene scored a run in the bottom of the 3rd to hold a 1-0 lead until Vancouver was able to score two runs off a home run in the top of the sixth.

However, the Emeralds would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth and they would be cleared on a double plus an error giving the team a 4-2 lead which would hold for the final score.

Salem-Keizer won last night so Eugene remains a game back heading into the home and home series with the Volcanoes.

2008 EMERALDS CONTEND FOR DIVISION TITLE
I apologize for not updating the page this year, my time has been taken by a new baby daughter born December 5, 2007. I look forward to taking her to many games in the future.

I have only attended one game so far this season but plan on being there tonight 8-22 against Vancouver then catching the season finale against Everett on 9-3.

As of today the Emeralds are one game behind Salem-Keizer with a 33-30 record. It is great to see the team in contention for a division title, especially after the 12-21 start.

I will post more as the season draws to a close. Pictures from the game I attended on July 24th can be seen here.
